Clean the old concrete surfaces of loose dust, dirt, grease and oil stains. Remove old, flaking coatings and paints, for example by sand blasting, grinding or milling. If the concrete surface is damaged, remove concrete until you reach healthy concrete. Open any cracks with an angle grinder. Patch any resulting cavities and open cracks, and correct the grading of balconies using Fescon Repairing Plaster, grain size 3.0 mm or 1.2 mm, or Overlaying Plaster, depending on the layer thickness. Prime the base with Fescon 2-K Primer; if necessary, you can use oven-dried quartz sand as filler.
Remove the cement paste layer from new concrete surfaces and vacuum the grinding dust carefully. If necessary, patch up the cavities and holes and overlay the surface as above before priming.
The treated surface must be dry, clean, structurally solid and primed with 2-K Primer. The temperature must be between + 10°C and + 25°C, and the relative humidity below 85%. The moisture in the base must be below 90% relative humidity. Measure with a surface moisture meter. Do not work in direct sunlight.
Prime with Fescon 2-K Primer. Mix the Primer well with a power mixer and apply it on the base with a roller or trowel. Prime very porous bases twice. The primer must be applied in such a manner that the surface film is continuous and there are no pores in the surface. The concrete must have a strength of over 20 MPa and it must be at least four weeks old before priming.
Allow the primer to dry before coating. Apply the coating within 6 to 24 hours of priming. Mix carefully before use. Fescon 1-K Elastic Coating is applied on a primed surface with a feather-edged trowel, around 1.0 kg/m2. Apply the coating on vertical surfaces with a brush. If necessary, you can thin the coating with Fescon Thinner (max. 1 dl/12.5 kg). Thinning may change the colour of the coating slightly. Add sand or glass beads for a rougher surface. Add flakes immediately after the coating has been applied. The next treatment must be done within 8 to 24 hours. Wash tools with a solvent immediately after use, for example with Fescon Thinner.
If you wish the finish to be slicker and more dirt-resistant, you can apply Fescon Protective Lacquer.
There are separate maintenance instructions for the product.
Load from sharp furniture or grates can cause indentations in the surface.
Hardened product and empty, dry packages can be delivered to a landfill. A liquid product must be delivered to a hazardous waste reception point.
