Product description

Thin seam mortar KVL Stone adhesive is a cement-based thin joint masonry mortar suitable for both interior and exterior use. The mortar is used for thin joint masonry of calcium silicate bricks and blocks, as well as other partition wall blocks and lightweight concrete blocks, with a 2 mm joint thickness. Strength class M15. Also suitable for textured (roughcast) rendering. The product is modified with additives to improve weather resistance, adhesion, and workability.

  • For thin joint masonry with a 2 mm joint thickness
  • Good workability and low material consumption
  • Can be applied manually or with a watering can
  • Excellent adhesion and weather resistance
  • Strength class M15

Applications

  • Thin joint masonry with a 2 mm joint thickness
  • Textured (roughcast) rendering
The product is listed in the portal for building products that can be used in Nordic Swan Ecolabelled buildings.

Base

  • The temperature of the blocks, bricks or structure to be laid must be at least +5°C.
  • The masonry units must be protected from rain. Bricks must not be wet, covered with snow, or frozen.
  • The substrate is levelled by laying the first course of bricks or blocks accurately straight using, for example, Masonry mortar M100/600.

Priming

  • Masonry structures are not primed.

Mixing and Application

  • During work, strong wind, direct sunlight and rain should be avoided.
  • The working temperature must be between +5°C and +25°C.
  • One 25 kg bag of dry powder is mixed with 5.0–6.0 litres of clean water.
  • Do not add the maximum amount of water at once. The correct consistency is achieved when the mortar holds its shape and no water separates on the surface.
  • The amount of water must comply with the product data sheet. Deviating from the recommended water amount will reduce the strength values, increase the risk of separation, affect strength development and impair workability.
  • Mix the product into a uniform mass using a mortar mixer or whisk. Mixing time is approx. 2 minutes, after which the mixture should rest for approx. 10 minutes before short remixing.
  • Apply the mortar using a notched trowel or by pouring it from a watering can onto the masonry unit. The mortar joint must be completely filled.
  • In very dry and warm conditions, adhesion can be improved by moistening the masonry units to a matte-damp condition. Free water must not be present.
  • Expansion joints must be made according to the structural design.
  • The working time of the prepared mortar is approx. 2 hours.
  • Tools should be cleaned immediately after use with water.
  • Hardened mortar must be removed mechanically.
  • As aftercare, the mortar joints should be kept moist for approximately 3 days after masonry, depending on conditions and site, using light water misting.

Finishing

  • The masonry structure is finished according to the project plan. Indoors, the surface can be levelled if necessary with Fescon Levelling compound for wet areas WTT or other Fescon wall fillers.

Additional Information

  • Masonry work must be carried out in accordance with the designer’s instructions and official regulations.
  • Not suitable for the masonry of firebricks.
  • In textured (roughcast) rendering, the substrate is levelled with Fescon Socle and adjusting plaster SOL. The aggregate used for roughcast rendering is applied onto the fresh surface of Thin seam mortar KVL Stone adhesive and pressed firmly against the substrate. The surface is cured according to the application instructions.
