Base
The base must be straight and smooth. Suitable levelling products include Fescon Socle and Levelling Plaster. The base must also be undamaged, clean, and damp enough to be darker in colour. If the base is too dry, this reduces the open time of the plaster. Rough coating should also be avoided in very sunny and windy conditions (skin formation on the surface). Nor should coating be applied at temperatures below + 5°C. The densest cement paste layer must be removed from the concrete surface. You should spread a plastic sheet around one metre wide at the foot of the socle to collect any coating falling on the ground. The rough coating used must be dry and dust-free. If necessary, it must be screened (2 mm screen aperture), washed and dried. The control joints on large surfaces as well as the window and door frames can also be coated with the Rough Coating plaster. After the plaster has hardened for around one day, cover the control joints and window and door frames with masking tape.
Mixing
Refer to the bag for how much water the plaster requires. Add the dry material to the water and mix with a concrete mixer for around ten minutes. With a power mixer or a drill paddle, around one to two minutes of mixing is sufficient. Allow the plaster to stand for around ten minutes and mix it again for a short while. Find the correct consistency at this stage by gradually adding the rest of the water. We do not recommend adding all of the water right at the start. The finished plaster remains workable for around two hours.
Work instructions
In order to ensure straightness, the first course of bricks can be laid using Fescon Masonry Mortar M100/600. The layer must be allowed to harden before beginning thin-joint masonry. Apply Fescon Stone Adhesive to one end and edge of a brick with a 9 x 6 x 6 mm notched trowel. You can speed work up by applying the mortar to several bricks at once. "Glue" the bricks in a staggered fashion with a joint thickness of around 2 mm. Correct any alignment errors by carefully hitting with a hammer. Tie the walls to each other with steel bands. A separate temporary frame is normally used when crossing door and window openings. The temporary frame can be removed after two days of the bricklaying at the earliest. Remove excess mortar with a trowel.
